About Us

The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre was inaugurated in May 1998 by the then Prime Minister Sri. Atal Behari Vajpayee in the divine presence of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi.  It started functioning as a super specialty hospital and the library was established to serve the various super specialty departments. The collections consisted of print books, print periodicals, and CDs. Since the Medical College's founding in 2002, its holdings have grown to serve its undergraduate curriculum as well as several different postgraduate courses and research initiatives.
The Central Library is relocated to its current location in 2018. The library occupies the fourth and fifth floors of the Nalanda building and has a total area of 2600 square meters. The fourth floor is for faculty, postgraduate students in advanced courses in various specialties, and other medical staff, while the fifth floor is for undergraduate students enrolled in MBBS and other allied health programs.
The collections consist of journals, print and digital resources, including reference books, books on different subjects, bound volumes of previous year journal issues, and online databases of e-journals, e-books, and multimedia files.  The library's website is accessible from any location on the campus.   The digital library's resources can be accessed remotely from any location outside the campus.
For internal library operations, the library uses a state-of-the-art cloud-based library management system with OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogues) facilities.

The Library Hours: Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Holidays and Sundays: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
